    15th October 2008 - SILENT WALK 11th OCTOBER 2008

On Saturday 11 October we had our Silent Protest Walk in Port Louis. We walked in silence as planned and all went well thanks to the good organisation of the police escort. We were honored that Mr Fritz Thomas, the Mayor of Port Louis, joined our group as this sends a strong signal of hope to us all. If the Authorities take their part of responsibility in this cause then everything will be much easier.

The man who killed Mythical Man and his 3 accomplices have already been released with a Rs8000 recognition of debt! Our legislation regarding Animal Welfare is very week and outdated; with a good lawyer, anyone can get out of trouble with a minimum fine after torturing an animal.

In the name of Animal Welfare, in the name of fairness towards those animals who give their lives to make us happy by satisfying our fancies, who provide us with companionship, who guard our houses, who provide us with food...who feel pain and suffer just like us...we must make a change in the actual legislations. Sam, PAWS' President is currently working on proposals for the amendment of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; a first draft will be proposed next week.

Mr Ramalingum Maistry, the Mayor of Beau Bassin - Rose Hill honored us by his presence and we had good media coverage on MBC Radio and Radio Plus.

    Friends of PAWS

My family and I had come to Mauritius for a December holiday. We all had a wonderful time as it is a beautiful, friendly island with a lot to offer. There was one thing that had really disturbed us. The fact the we kept on seeing animals and particularly dogs in distress. That part of the holiday was really upsetting...
