PAWS, Protection of
Animals Welfare Society, is working hard on improving animal welfare
in Mauritius. Any donation or contribution you make will have a
profound and immediate effect on the lives of the vulnerable animals
we care for and treat. PAWS is a non-governmental

Saturday 18 August. The Mauritius Commercial Bank presented
PAWS with a cheque for Rs. 154,080. which will
cover the medical and surgical costs of 30 sterilisation days
at or near MCB branches throughout the island over one year.
A poster competition for the children of MCB employees was

banner. The next sterilisation day will take place at the

The PAWS stands and the Flag Day activities organised
on 15, 16 & 17 November 2007 at Le Caudan, Shoprite, London
Way Black River, Jumbo Riche Terre and Super U Grand Bay were
a huge success! We collected Rs 98,326 during the 3 days!
We would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their
time to shake tins, and the ladies who counted all the coins!
This year, PAWS Flag Day will be held on 13,
14 & 15 November. If you would like to help with
the collection, please let us know, as we would like to start
planning this Fundraising Event now, to collect more funds

tips |

Jogging with your dog
We may live in a concrete jungle, but a dog was not bred
for that. Jogging or running on concrete or other hard surfaces
can damage a dog's bones, muscles and pads. Walking your dog
on the sidewalk is fine, but grass or dirt is much safer for
the faster pace. (Extended periods of jogging on any surface
can cause damage to a dog that is still growing.)
Picking up your dog or puppy
Dogs do not have shoulder joints like people and cats do.
Their front legs can't go up high, so be careful when you
pick up a puppy or small dog, or when you make a dog or puppy
stand up.
Reward vs Punishment
Praising a dog when it acts correctly is more effective than
shouting "No"! when it misbehaves. If a dog jumps
up, ask it to sit and then praise it for sitting. You will
have a happier pet and he/she will be easier to train.
