19th September 2008 - HORSE SLAUGHTER IN MAURITIUS

PAWS heard about this video clip on "You Tube" showing the horrendous scene of a horse being slaughtered and the two men laughing while the lifeblood literally flowed out of this horse.

PAWS immediately sent the video to the local media, informed the MSPCA about it, and called the Mauritius Turf Club to find out more about the horse and its owner.

According to the Mauritius Turf Club, the horse’s name was "Mythical Man", an ex-race horse who had been given to a Hotel in the North of the Mauritius, and then given or sold to someone else.

The two men in the video (the previous and the current owner) have just been identified, and their names have been given to the Police.

Every animal welfare association in Mauritius condemns this act of unbelievable cruelty, and PAWS, the MSPCA and the Mauritius Turf Club will take these men to court.

All the local radios in Mauritius have exposed this crime; PAWS, the MSPCA and the Mauritius Turf Club have been invited to take part in a programme called ‘Controverses’ on Radio One on Monday 22 September at 5 pm to expose animal cruelty in Mauritius, and to put pressure on the authorities so that action can be taken against these crimes.

We will keep you updated.

25th September 2008 - HORSE SLAUGHTER IN MAURITIUS - MEN ARRESTED

Dear Friends

It was announced this week that Samir Joomally, Mohammmad Ramizally Bhugaloo, Ilfaan Keramuth and Mohamad Kuedar Mathurah have been arrested in connection with the slaughter of "Mythical Man". The MSPCA, The Mauritius Turf Club (MTC) and PAWS are working with the government on proposals to amend the 1982 Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, providing more severe penalties for animal abuse.

I hope the arrest and conviction of these criminals will serve as a lesson to others and that we will never see such horrible cruelty again in Mauritius.

Thank you for your encouraging emails and for your support.

Kind regards
Roxane

20th August 2008 - ADOPTION DAY

The Adoption Day at Le Caudan on Saturday 16 August, was once again a big success! We all had a good time together, and it is always a great joy for us when our dogs and cats find a good home. 12 dogs and 2 cats were rehomed on that day!
Unfortunately many kittens and puppies were sick during the week preceding the event, and could not be brought to Le Caudan, on that Saturday.
