What We Do

PAWS intervenes in the following key areas:

image
Sterilisation

Sterilisation is the only humane solution to the overpopulation of dogs and cats in Mauritius. PAWS provides affordable sterilisations in its two vet clinics as well as organises free sterilisation campaigns in poor communities.

Education

Leveraging on the natural affectionate bond between humans and animals, PAWS education programme focuses on changing people’s mindsets at a core-level . Only then can we have a long-term positive impact on animal welfare in Mauritius. PAWS do education sessions in schools, communities, clubs and corporate offices.

Treatment

PAWS clinics provide affordable veterinary care to ensure people from all economic backgrounds can provide necessary care for their pets.

Rescue

PAWS runs two shelters on the island where we welcome as many dogs and cats in distress as possible: puppies and kittens who cannot fend for themselves, dogs and cats who are suffering, sick or injured and in need of immediate medical attention and care. With a large stray population, we cannot take in all animals but we do our best to help as many as we can.

Rehabilitation

We care for the puppies, dogs, kittens and cats who come into our shelter until they find a new home. They are dewormed, treated for ticks and fleas, bathed, provided medical care and treatment as appropriate, vaccinated, sterilised, fed and socialised… and of course, loved!

Rehoming

Every year PAWS rehomes hundreds of stray dogs and cats, giving those abandoned animals a new chance at happiness. We encourage adoption of rescue dogs and cats. At any point, we have over a hundred animals waiting for a home at our two shelters.
